A letter from Pastor bill

Psalm 46 reminds me that the Lord is our refuge and strength, especially in times of uncertainty and change.  Trusting him brings not only peace but wisdom – guidance for faithfully loving him and our neighbor. I am grateful for our session, who met on March 17, to discern our next steps as a congregation in light of COVID-19. Here is what they decided:

  • All in-person programs and activities, including our Sunday services, have been cancelled through March 31.  However, there will be opportunities to gather virtually during this time. As the situation evolves, session will decide whether or not the cancellations should continue through April 12; they will then continually evaluate our congregational life on a two week basis for as long as is necessary. (Life groups may/may not meet, pending the decisions of the leaders and participants. If meeting, then current CDC recommendations include no more than 10 people gather at a time, hand washing before and after meeting, social distance of six feet, etc.)
  • A live stream a message/service on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am will be available beginning on Sunday, March 22. Please see the above information.
  • Communication with the congregation will take place through multiple means (Facebook, our website, texting, printed mail, etc.) over the weeks ahead. Please open any correspondence from FPC in any format upon receipt. We need to be able to share information and prayer requests, given that we may not be able to meet together for a while. Call the church office, read correspondence, and check the website/Facebook page for any updates/changes in scheduling.  If you are not receiving any correspondence from the church but would like to, contact the church office (wbgprsby@windstream.net, 724-627-6006).
  • Our deacons, elders, and staff are making plans for regular contacts with our covenant partners and friends. Through phone calls, video chats, and conference calls, we will be looking for ways to remain in touch and grow in faith through this, as we love and care for one another.
  • Though our ministry will look different, it will continue, so please continue to contribute generously. On-line giving is available; offering envelopes can continue to be sent to the church building.

God’s character and calling have not changed – we are all learning to trust him as we adapt and implement new ways of being and making disciples of Jesus. My prayer is that we will thrive, not just survive, these days as together we move right to Jesus and reach left to our neighbor.
